Summer Employment

Thank you for your interest in a staff and/or volunteer position at Lions Camp Merrick in Nanjemoy, Maryland.  Our camp is among the very best in the Mid-Atlantic region and our programs for Deaf, hard-of-hearing (HOH) and kids of deaf adults (KODA), along with the Lions Camp Merrick/Glyndon Diabetes Program are second to none.

The Deaf program is for ages 6 to 16 years and features three sessions:  June 22-27, June 28 - July 3 and July 6-11.  We plan to bring in the senior staff for orientation on June 11 and the general staff will come in approximately three days later.

Staff and/or volunteers who are certified in archery, canoeing, high and low ropes, life guards/pool operators may be invited to work through the Glyndon Diabetes Program which ends August 8, 2008.

The Glyndon Diabetes Program is open to youth ages 7 to 16 and features four sessions:  Family session July 17-20, July 20-25, July 27-August 1 and August 3-8.  Staff orientation for the diabetes program will be held July 15-19.

Lions Camp Merrick will pay one half of the certification cost for selected staff and volunteers interested in becoming certified in any of the activities listed above.  If you return to work at Lions Camp Merrick again in 2008, the balance of your certification cost will be paid at the conclusion of the camping season.

Please note:  All certified staff must have first aide and CPR certifications that are current for the summer session.  These certifications are not offered or paid for by Lions Camp Merrick.

Experience in instructional and swim program supervision. WSI, Lifeguard, pool operator, First Aid, and CPR certifications.

Perform pool maintenance and develop a program of swim instruction and a safe general swim program.

LIFEGUARD

Certified in Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid.

CANOE INSTRUCTOR

Experience with small water craft such as rowboats, canoes, kayaks, and sailboards. First Aid, CPR, Canoe Instructor and WSI.

Teach basic craft and nature craft skills.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE

Experience or training in nature lore and outdoor education activities. CPR and First Aid certificate. Interest in camping and knowledge about camping equipment.

Teach environmental education and nature lore, assist development of the nature center and nature program. Organize and pack food and equipment for campouts and trips.

COUNSELORS

Experience or training in working with children.

Leadership and guidance of 5-7 campers in a cabin group on a weekly basis.

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (CIT)

CAMP AIDES
